Summer Day Camp Counselor
Employment Date: MidJune 2018 to August 24th, 2018 Position: Hourly Salary Range: $13.80 per hour Hours: Must be available to attend some day time and evening training between June 18th – 29th, 2018 and work day camp shifts between 7:20am-5:30pm, Monday to Friday, for the duration of summer day camps.

Situation: The YMCA of Lethbridge offers day camp programs for children from 3 to 16 years of age. We offer a variety of camps, for all ages, with different learning experiences. We are planning many activities and trips during these camps, and promise a fun-filled summer for children and youth attending.

Nature and Scope: The incumbent will be guiding children in their physical, social, mental, and emotional development in accordance with the philosophy of the YMCA of Lethbridge.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing constant care and supervision of all campers, ensuring a safe and fun camp program, including participation in daily swims
  • Implementing the day camp program as planned
  • Acting in a manner that is in accordance with the YMCA mission statement
  • Conducting all principal requirements of the position, as detailed in the Summer Day Camp Counselor job description

Qualifications/Certifications:

  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR “C”, condition of employment

Day Camp Director

Nature Scope: Reporting to the Manager of Youth and Family Programs, the Summer Camp Director provides leadership to the delivery of high‐quality child and youth summer camping. The focus of this position will be ensuring quality programs, services and supervision of the facility. The Camp Director will work to strengthen and maintain strong relationships with our Camp Counselors at the Lethbridge YMCA. The Camp Director will ensure that staff and volunteers are well trained, efficient, and highly effective in the delivery of services to children and youth. The Camp Director will ensure that high service standards are established throughout our season. Building and maintaining relationships is a major role of the Camp Director, ensuring Camp Counselors are well informed. The Camp Director will have the ability to work independently in a remote camping environment and also as a team. Major Responsibilities: YMCA Camp programming is based on the building of a camp community. The camp community is intended to be supportive of all members and to provide opportunities for growth and learning. Staff and volunteers at YMCA Camps are responsible to not only be a part of the camp community, but also to guide campers in understanding what it means to be a part of a YMCA Camp. This will be accomplished in a number of ways, but is not limited to:

  • Recruiting and selecting applicants
  • Hiring, coaching, and training Camp Counselors

The YMCA of Lethbridge currently provides services in health, fitness & aquatics, day camping, leadership development and opportunities to give, and will be expanding its scope to increase programs to include licensed childcare and community programs when it begins operations in partnership with the City of Lethbridge at the Cor Van Raay YMCA in ATB Centre in early 2019.   

This 235,000 ft2 leisure centre will offer the following amenities to the general public:

Nature & Scope:

Due to our expanding operations, the YMCA of Lethbridge is searching for a General Manager to lead the opening and operation of the Cor Van Raay YMCA.  Reporting to the CEO, the General Manager will be an enthusiastic individual with an entrepreneurial approach; they must have a high-energy ‘get it done’ attitude and be ready to be a part of a team of leaders that successfully plans for, opens and manages the day to day operations of this unique facility.  The General Manager will have a strong ability to innovate, develop relationships, and lead the management team to anticipate community and member needs and act on areas of impact by developing a comprehensive program and services plan that includes stakeholders, community groups and existing and new members.

This permanent, full time position offers a high degree of independence.  Specifically, the major responsibilities of this position are to:

  • Open a new branch of the YMCA of Lethbridge while providing strong leadership to an engaged team of 100 staff and 75 volunteers;
  • Develop and implement a pre opening plan, in conjunction with YMCA Senior Leadership and reflective of the critical pathway plan that includes:
    • Stakeholder consultation, engagement and relationship building
    • Membership, program and facility allocation planning
    • Hiring, mentoring and developing a large, diverse team of staff and volunteers
    • Coordinating plans for IT, Health and Safety, Operations, Asset and Marketing
  • Maintain high service standards and satisfaction ratings that are reflected in the achievement of annual membership growth and retention targets. Achieve all quality standards and targets established under YMCA best practices and the YMCA’s SAM 2.0 program;
  • Achieve or exceed Branch goals in reflection of the initial 4 year approved operating budget;
  • Develop subsequent branch budget for approval by the YMCA Board of Directors and City of Lethbridge;
  • Work closely with City of Lethbridge facility operations staff and management and the facility’s Joint Facility Operations Committee to ensure smooth facility operations including the planning and communication of preventative maintenance and unexpected repairs within the facility;
  • Ensure staff have the skills and knowledge required to perform roles in line with expectations of their functions. Support direct reports in the performance management of staff and volunteer teams;
  • Ensure the Centre meets the strategic plan and operational goals of the Association. Manage and achieve the targets and goals established in the centre’s operating budgets;
  • Develop and implement plans to serve and engage the community through discussion, participation and involvement in community groups, committees and partnerships related to the needs of the Lethbridge community.  Liaise and develop positive relationships with external organizations and community members to ensure that the branch is well established and subsequently views as a valuable community asset.  This will require commitment to work closely with the City of Lethbridge, YMCA donors, volunteers and community groups;
  • Lead and role model the YMCA’s commitment to philanthropy and volunteerism;
  • Provide leadership to the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign and achieve targets through direct oversight of recruitment, training, supervision and recognition of campaign staff, volunteers, and donors. Ensure the YMCA’s reputation as charity of choice is understood and supported by the community;

Nature & Scope:
