Update to Restriction Exemption Program for Children and Youth under 18

Effective November 1, 2021 all members, patrons, and visitors 12 years and older will be required to show proof of two vaccinations, a valid medical exemption or a privately-paid COVID test to participate in activities at YMCA of Lethbridge facilities. This change represents the addition of youth aged 12 to 17 to the existing proof of vaccination requirements, with the second dose having been administered at least 14 days prior to entry.

Previously we announced that youth under the age of 18 would be allowed to participate in activities without proof of vaccination, medical exemption, or a privately-paid COVID test. We have made the decision to amend this policy to help our struggling health care system and  provide improved access to the YMCA for vulnerable individuals who are at a higher risk of COVID-19.

To show proof of your second vaccination, private negative COVID test or medical exemption please do one of the following:

  • Email [email protected] with a copy of your proof of vaccination or medical exemption, or
  • Show your proof of vaccination at the membership desk at your next visit
  • Show proof of a negative, privately paid COVID test taken within the preceding 72 hours at membership desk at every visit
  • Show proof of medical exemption at membership desk at your next visit

Our community will get through this pandemic together.

We encourage everyone who is eligible for vaccination against COVID-19 to do so. We welcome those not vaccinated to enjoy activities and programs at the YMCA through proof of a negative, privately-paid COVID test or valid medical exemption. Operating under the Alberta Restriction Exemption Program allows the YMCA of Lethbridge to remain open in the most inclusive manner possible given the pandemic and its ongoing impact on our community.

Our front line staff are working hard to serve our members and guests. If you disagree with this policy, you’re welcome to email your concerns to [email protected], however, no YMCA employees are able to make exceptions or to change this policy. Absolutely no verbal or physical abuse of YMCA employees or volunteers will be tolerated. It will be reported to police.

The YMCA of Lethbridge Core Values are:

  • Caring
  • Honesty
  • Inclusiveness
  • Respect
  • Responsibility

As always, we welcome those who share our values to be part of our community.

We are aiming to lead by example with the expansion of our proof of vaccination program.

All YMCA employees and volunteers are currently vaccinated, have a medical exemption or show proof of a negative COVID test every 72 hours. This includes any youth employees and volunteers.

Update to Restriction Exemption Program for Children and Youth under 18

Yesterday, September 21, 2021, the Government of Alberta provided clarification surrounding the recent restrictions to help reduce the transmission of COVID-19. As a result, we’re updating our policy to improve access for youth to the Cor Van Raay YMCA.
Effective immediately, youth aged 12 – 17 are encouraged to provide proof of vaccination to participate in YMCA programs and activities but are not required to do so. The YMCA of Lethbridge will continue to implement the Alberta Exemption Program for adults 18 years of age and older.

Youth attending YMCA programs will be required to;
  • Wear face coverings in all public areas
  • Complete a medical screen prior to participating in programs

Visitors are not permitted to attend YMCA programming if showing symptoms of COVID-19

There are no changes to the Restriction Exemption Program for Adults. Please see details below.
We’d like to thank you for your patience and cooperation as we roll out this program. The response has been overwhelmingly positive as we work to provide you with the best membership experience possible with great access to the facility, programs and services – safely.
September 16, 2021

Dear YMCA Members,

Yesterday, September 15, 2021, the Government of Alberta announced new restrictions to reduce the transmission of COVID-19. Based on these announcements, the YMCA of Lethbridge will be implementing the Alberta Restrictions Exemption Program.
Effective Monday September 20, 2021, members 12 years of age and older will be required to show proof of vaccination (Effective September 22, 2021 this applies to ages 18 and older), a private negative COVID test or medical exemption to participate in activities at the YMCA of Lethbridge. To show your proof of vaccination, private negative COVID test or medical exemption:
  • Email [email protected] with a copy of your proof of vaccination, negative COVID test or medical exemption, or
  • Show your proof of vaccination at the membership desk at your next visit
  • Show proof of a private negative COVID test at membership desk at your next visit
  • Show proof of medical exemption at membership desk at your next visit
If you are fully vaccinated, you will only need to show proof of your vaccination at your initial visit on or after September 20, 2021 if you don’t email it in advance. For members who have received a single dose, you will need to show proof of your second dose by October 25, 2021 or revert to the negative COVID test for access. Proof of vaccination is a copy of your vaccination record downloaded from MyHealth Records or any other proof that has been approved by the Government of Alberta.
If you choose to show a negative COVID test, it must be a private test (not Alberta Health Services) and have been taken within the preceding 72 hours. You will be asked to show a recent private negative COVID test each time you visit the Cor Van Raay YMCA.
In addition to the above changes, we continue to ask members to social distance and wear a mask in all public spaces.
To help protect the safety of everyone at the YMCA, the same vaccine and negative test requirements will apply to all YMCA of Lethbridge employees with a short grace period to ensure we can operate our facilities.

Community doesn’t end during a pandemic.

The YMCA of Lethbridge remains wide open to the public, including:

  • Aquatic Centre
  • Fitness Centre

With the Cor Van Raay YMCA remaining wide open, all memberships will remain active.

We are a charity. We would rather serve the community at full capacity with a full suite of programs and support for our members in their wellness journey than operate at a reduced capacity. We would rather keep our valued employees working to support their families than being laid off again as they have been several times over the last 19 months.
More than ever we have come to rely on the YMCA as a safe place where we can grow. We are here for the community. You are welcome to join us if you’re vaccinated, have a medical exemption or negative test within the last 72 hours.
