Youth Drop-In

During the week, the Rec Room is open for youth ages 8-15 years old who are members or patrons with a Day Pass. Each day there will be a pre-planned activity at the beginning that youth can choose to participate in. These activities range from painting to pool tournaments to trivia. Youth who do not wish to participate are welcome to stay in the room and engage in quiet activities. Once the scheduled activity is complete, youth are able to access everything the Rec Room has to offer.

Youth Drop-in Hours

Mondays to Thursdays from 4:00pm to 8:00pm

Fridays from 12:00pm – 6:00pm

PD Days from 12:00pm – 6:00pm

STAT Holidays the Rec Room is Open to All Ages from 12:00pm – 4:00pm

 

Teen Vibe

Teen Vibe is a Youth Drop-in Program for teenagers between 15 and 18 years old. This program occurs Friday Nights from 7:30pm – 8:30pm and provides older youth with the opportunity to enjoy the Rec Room with their friends. Teen Vibe is offered to Members and Day Pass Patrons allowing them to join the Youth Attendants in video games, pool, foosball, boardgames and more.

 

Youth Lunch Program

On school days, high school students are welcomed to the Rec Room during their lunch break. There is a microwave for students to heat up their food and tables to sit at with friends. The program runs on Mondays to Thursdays from 10:50 am to 11:50am. There is no fee or membership required.

 

Games in the Galleria

The Upper Galleria, located above the North Entrance, is transformed into an open boardgame and craft space available to all members of the community. YMCA staff are present to teach participants new games or to have someone to play against. On Saturdays, Staff will bring out the Ping Pong table that will be open to everyone from 12:00pm – 2:00pm.

*Participants aged 7 and under must be supervised by a caregiver (16+).

Teen Takeover

On Friday nights from 6:15pm to 7:30pm, the Youth Drop-In program moves into the Fieldhouse to participate in large space activities. Youth aged 8-15 who would like to participate are welcome to join us on Court 6 anytime between 6:10pm and 7:30pm. Participants will need to check-in at the membership desk to access the Fieldhouse and pay for a Day Pass if they don’t have a membership. Youth are encouraged to wear active clothing/shoes and bring a water bottle. The activities for Teen Takeover are voted for in the Rec Room throughout Youth Drop-in that day.

May 26th: Basketball or Gaga Ball

 

Open House

On weekends and STAT Holidays, the Rec Room is open to Members and Day Pass Patrons of all ages to enjoy. If you want to learn new boardgames, challenge your family to foosball or simply relax with a colouring page, YMCA staff will be there to assist you. *Participants aged 7 and under must be supervised by a caregiver (16+).

Sundays from 12:00pm – 4:00pm

STAT Holidays from 12:00pm – 4:00pm

 

Teen and Me: Family Bingo

The last Saturday of the month, the Youth Team invites youth and their families to participate in Family Bingo. The activity will be held in the Rec Room at 3:00pm during the Open House times. All Members and patrons with a Day Pass are welcome to join and test their luck for a chance to win some YMCA merchandise.  *Participants aged 7 and under must be supervised by a caregiver (16+).

 

Cards and Coffee

During the week, adults aged 16 and older are welcomed to enjoy free coffee and conversation. Cards and Coffee occurs every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:45am – 10:30am, excluding holidays.

 

FAQs:

  • Is there a cost? The Rec Room cost is included in your membership or with the purchase of a Day Pass.
  • Do I need to check in? Yes, when you arrive in the Rec Room scan your membership card. If you have paid for a Day Pass let the staff know and show us the stamp you received from the Membership desk.
  • Where is it? Our Rec Room is located across from the Membership desk, beside the Washrooms.
  • Are there any exceptions to the ages of Youth Drop-in? No, there are no exceptions due to the YMCA’s Child Protection Policy which requires children 7 and under to have supervision of a caregiver 16 years or older, and to provide safety for all room users.
  • Are Support Workers allowed in the Rec Room? Yes! Support Workers please see the membership desk for facility access at your first visit.
  • Where can I find the Activity Schedule? Each week the schedule is posted on the Rec Room door. Note: The weekly schedule may change on the day based on participation number.

*** Day Pass patrons must pay the Day Pass rate at the membership desk to participate in Rec Room activities. Please ask for a stamp when you pay for the Day Pass and then show it to the Staff in the Rec Room to get signed into programs.
