YMCA Crossings Child Care Centre

About Us

YMCA Crossings Childcare Centre is located within the Cor Van Raay YMCA centre, offering licensed childcare for children 12 months to five years old. The facility has a capacity of 55 children with three distinct spaces for ages 19 months – 2.5 years, 2.5 years – 4 years, and 4 years who aren’t yet attending kindergarten.

Our employees are Early Childhood Education or Child & Youth Care Certified with a team that includes two highly experienced educators per each room, two highly experienced float staff, and a certified chef.

Playing To Learn

YMCA Early Learning and Care programs are designed to nurture the development of your child in all areas through our YMCA Playing to Learn™ curriculum.

Playing to Learn encourages engagement, social interaction, imagination, a joy of learning, and will nourish the connection between learning and play, as well as your child’s holistic development and wellbeing.

For A Healthy Start

Outdoor and Loose Parts Play

Your child will be encouraged to engage with their environment in all seasons for a minimum of one hour per day (weather depending).

This open-ended play environment provides your child an opportunity to engage in free and unstructured play in a natural setting. When children are encouraged to explore without intrinsic goals, they become problem solvers, gain confidence, and learn to collaborate.

Adventure Walks

Offsite walks will benefit your child by:

  • Promoting independence and freedom. Your child will make more decisions about their journey when they feel like they are in control. They can choose to stop and look at something along the way and explore their thoughts.
  • When your child discovers and explores with our early childhood educators as facilitators, they will become a flexible, creative thinker.
Gymnasium Playtime

Playing in the gymnasium will benefit your child by:

  • Helping meet your child’s daily physical activity goals.
  • Encouraging a strong sense of balance by jumping climbing and skipping which require core strength and hand-eye coordination.
Library Visit Field Trips

Visiting the library will benefit your child by:

Promoting creative learning, language, and literacy outside of our centre.

Meals and Menus

Your child receives quality, chef-prepared lunch, and snacks on a four-week menu rotation that is available to parents in advance.

Summer School-Age Subsidy Rates

The Government of Alberta continues to support families in accessing affordable, quality child care. We heard from parents and child care programs that increasing school-age child care subsidy rates during the summer months in 2020 and 2021 helped many families who needed full-day care while schools are closed–and we are pleased to provide an increase again for summer 2022.

For July and August 2022, subsidy rates will increase to help offset the full-time program fees for eligible school-age children enrolled in licensed childcare programs over the summer months. The rate increase will occur automatically and is applicable to children who attended in Grades1-6 during the 2021-22 school year. The subsidy rates will return to the regular amounts starting in September.
