Fitness Leadership Courses

Do you have a passion for fitness and leadership? Become a certified YMCA Fitness Leader and share your love for health and fitness with others in your community. All of our Fitness Volunteers receive a free YMCA membership and on-going training for both personal and professional development.

Our Fitness Leadership courses provide you with everything you need to become a group fitness instructor in any of our streams (Cycle, Resistance, Yoga, Aquatic). You will learn fitness theory and the fundamentals before you are mentored and apply your skills through peer teaching, learning assignments, apprenticing and a final practical observation.

Aquatic Fitness

Learn water and movement principles for teaching aquatic fitness classes in both the shallow and deep end of the pool.


Gain the skills needed to lead group cycle classes, monitor participants intensity and help build their cardiovascular endurance.


Learn to instruct choreography classes such as Hi/Lo or Step through a mix of classroom and studio time


Learn the principles of instructing Hatha yoga classes, with a focus on delivering introductory level programming.
