Ride for a Lasting Legacy
Len and Bev Herring both were born in Lethbridge and raised in Southern Alberta. Living very active lifestyles through walking, cycling, hiking and golf, they found each other, married, and continued to do what they loved most – being active and travelling to all corners of the world.
During the 1970’s, both Len and Bev joined the YMCA of Lethbridge where Len found others to run and cycle the coulees of Lethbridge with and Bev enjoyed group exercise classes before heading to the golf course.
With annual contributions starting in 2016, the Herring’s generosity has given hundreds of local children and families the ability to live healthy lifestyles and feel a sense of belonging by accessing YMCA fee assistance memberships and programs so that no one is turned away.
The Len and Bev Herring Studio located at the Cor Van Raay YMCA is a reflection of their legacy in our community and was established in May of 2019. Sadly, Len lost his battle with cancer and passed away peacefully at home in October 2020.
The Bev and the family continue to support what Len loved the most, cycling and the community, through an annual event that brings people together. The Len Herring Legacy Ride combines activity, friendship and supporting our community which continues to carry on the impact Len and Bev started so many years ago.
